Forty is not the problem. What the majority of Americans after forty do. When they are supposed to accelerate, they even decelerate. They make repair when they are to upgrade. They make forty their finish line, when science terms it the starting gun of the best decade of your life. This is what happened to most of us after 40- and this is what the smart ones do.

Ignoring Muscle Loss

Painfully false — assuming that loss of muscle is inevitable. Smart, two resistance sessions per week is the opposite. Then, take 40 strength training sessions to help you feel more energized, have more focus and I liked to say add more quality years to your life. At any age you can make the body react so long as you have a reason.

Crash Dieting Again

Incorrect – expect to eat less to have a slimmer. Smart- eat smarter than play smarter. Post 40 crash dieting kills muscle and dumps metabolism. Protein in every meal, 1 day intake of fiber and regular water rejuvenates your body inside and out.

Dismissing Fatigue

Delusional – coping with exhaustion as the normal aging process. Smart — fixing the sleep. Post-40 sleep problems are bad enough to interfere with hormones, upsurge cortisol, and accelerate all aging indicators followed by the doctors. After age 40, seven or nine hours is luxury. It’s medicine.

Skipping Checkups

Wrong – not attending annual checkups. Smart — owning your numbers. The level of cholesterol, blood pressure, blood sugar and all major hormones in the body – gain knowledge of your baseline after turning 40 and you know how to craft corrections before minor issues become costly mistakes.

Maintaining Superficial Friendships.

Error – keeping superficial social networks because it is a habit. Smart – investing hard in a limited number of people. Close-knit community life after 40 halts dementia, brings down blood pressure, along with adding specific years to your life, which has been studied.

Dressing Like You’re 28

No–dressing just like you used to dress at 28. Smart — creating a brand image. After 40 style is not fashion – it is identity. The presenters of sharpest dress at 45 are not keeping up to the fashion. They have mastered it perfectly.

Running on Stress

Wrong- right -left. Smart — building a daily reset. Post 40 stress causes aging, kills gut health, and atrophies the hippocampus. All three effects are reversible in five minutes of daily mindfulness.

Grinding Harder Not Smarter

Error – grinding more than ever. Smart–it will do the work compounding. The highest grossing years fall in the 45-54 brackets. Individuals who are flourishing after 40 do not work more but use all that had been created during the thirties; all that much more to good strategic advantage.

Saying Yes to Everything

Wrong — saying yes out of guilt. Smart– securing time as money. Once you are 40 years old your biggest asset is no longer money, it is time. All yes means no to something of a greater significance. Make the right decision each and every time.

Waiting for Motivation

No good – waiting until motivation shows up. Instead, Smart, create building systems. The victors in the end after 40 are not dependent on the power of will. They have developed routine to the point where they can always make the best decision that is the most comfortable.
