Insufficient amounts of Vitamin D result in weak bones and poor health in terms of muscles. This means that the risk of having severe falls and bone injuries is high, which will greatly reduce the elderly person’s independence. 

Using OTC Pain Relievers

Overusing NSAIDs such as ibuprofen causes ulcers in the gut and makes older organs like the kidneys suffer even more. Since these drugs can be easily obtained from over-the-counter sources, many tend to believe that taking them is safe without knowing that their internal organs are slowly being harmed.

Ignoring Cognitive Decline

Disregarding memory lapses, difficulties with spatial awareness, and poor judgment through denial will prevent any form of treatment. Some of the reasons why one experiences cognitive decline include being deficient in vitamins and hormones, such as thyroxine.

Ignoring Oral Hygiene

While tooth decay can result from improper brushing of the teeth, receding gums due to inadequate dental care can also lead to bacteria entering the blood vessels, increasing one’s risk of developing heart disease.

Avoiding Mental Exercises

Performing tasks that are already known without undergoing any form of learning process is harmful to brain functions. Failure to exercise the mind through activities such as learning a new language and playing puzzle games makes the brain vulnerable to aging problems.
